The RKI Direct Connect series gas sensors are highly reliable and very cost effective for the detection of common gas hazards. The direct connect series are available for LEL, H2 Specific LEL, LEL IR, Oxygen, H2S, CO, CO2, and for a variety of toxic gases. The sensors for LEL, H2, Oxygen, H2S, CO2, and Carbon Monoxide are explosion-proof with flame arrestors, and approved for use in hazardous areas (Class 1, Div. 1 Groups B, C, D). An optional non-explosion proof version is available for oxygen, H2S, CO, and CO2 for use in non-hazardous atmospheres.

The Direct Connect sensors can be used in two different ways. The sensors can be mounted directly to the controllers as a complete stand alone system, or they can be mounted to explosion proof junction boxes for remote detection.

The toxic sensors are electrochemical type plug-in sensors, which provide high specificity, fast response, and long life. The plug-in design allows quick replacement in the field with no tools required. Toxic sensors are designed for use in Class I, Div. 2 hazardous locations. Sensors are available for NH3, SO2, PH3, AsH3, and HCN.

The Direct Connect sensors can be used either indoors or outdoors. The flame arrestors for the explosion-proof versions utilize a patented coating which make them water repellent. Also, splash guards are available for use in very wet environments. An optional stainless steel junction box is available for corrosive environments.

All of the Direct Connect sensors are designed to specifically interface with RKI Beacon 110, 200, and 410 controllers.

The RI-215 series of IR CO2 montitors are widely used in the measurement and control of CO2 levels in a variety of applications where CO2 monitoring or detection is required. A highly accurate, RKI non-dispersive infrared absorption sensor is used to provide direct measurements through diffusion or sample draw monitors, and activate alarms or control ventilation systems based on preset CO2 levels. Each model provides a digital readout in parts per million of CO2 providing precise measurement and direct visual indication of gas levels. A 4-20 mA output is provided to send a signal to a fire panel or other PLC system and a relay is available to trip an alarm or activate a ventilation system.

Three levels of measurement are provided: 0-2,000 ppm (ASHRAE 1969 IAQ max PEL), 0-5,000 ppm (leak detection of CO2 storage tanks) and 0-9,999 ppm. The RI-215A runs on 24 VAC or 24 VDC and the RI-215D with sample drawing pump runs on 115 VAC or 220 VAC. RKI is proud to introduce our Digester Gas Monitor. Gas from waste digesters contains high levels of methane, CO2, and H2S, with little to no oxygen present. The RKI gas monitor checks for all these gases on a cyclic basis. A powerful air aspirator draws a sample from up to 100 feet away. Since digester gas contains high humidity and high H2S, both of which can cause damage to sampling systems, the RKI Digester Gas Monitor is designed to handle these with no damage to the sampling system or sensors. The sample is passed through a series of dirt, dust, and moisture stopping filters, and these filters are automatically purged with fresh air at the end of each cycle.

Measurement time is just 4 minutes, taken at periodic cycles. Cycle time is selectable, with settings for cycle time of 15 minute, 1 hour, 4 hours, 8 hours, or 24 hours. A cycle can also be initiated anytime by pressing a button. After each cycle, the sensors and sampling system are flushed with fresh air so as to minimize corrosion caused by the high H2S content. The system is fault tolerant minimizing the possibility of expensive repairs or downtime.

System integrity is maintained at all times using a flow fail monitoring device which provides a fail alarm and relay if there is ever a problem with the flow system, such as a blockage, or if the air aspirator compressed air supply is removed or interrupted.

The system is housed in a wall mounting NEMA 4X enclosure. The gas readings can be viewed through the enclosure door clear window. Flow meters and filters are easily visible for confirmation of correct flows and operation. The RKI Digester Gas Monitor contains adjustable alarm levels for each gas, and also programmable alarm relays. In addition, the unit provides 4-20mA signals for each gas concentration for connection to an external DCS, PLC, or other site control system. A Modbus output is also available. The outputs are the readings received from the last cycle taken.

Sensor Technology

For hydrogen sulfide and carbon monoxide, the sensors utilize electrochemical technology which provides incredibly specific accuracy and quick response. Oxygen sensors work with galvanic technology, and infrared sensors for methane, hydrocarbons, and carbon dioxide. Non-explosion proof uses a galvanic sensor for oxygen; electrochemical sensors for hydrogen sulfide, carbon monoxide and other toxic gases; and infrared for carbon dioxide. Specifications

Explosion proof S2 Sensor/Transmitter

The explosion proof sensors use a variety of detection mechanisms including catalytic for LEL and LEL- H2 specific; metal oxide semiconductor for hydrogen; galvanic cell technology for oxygen; electrochemical for hydrogen sulfide and carbon monoxide; and infrared for carbon dioxide, methane, and hydrocarbons. A hydrogen specific sensor transmitter is not available. Each of these detection methods come with their own measuring range specifications and response times varying from 20 seconds to 45 seconds. These sensors are stainless steel and are housed in a cast aluminum explosion proof J-Box (a stainless steel J-Box is also available).

Non-explosion proof S2 Sensor/Transmitter

The non-explosion proof sensors use galvanic cells for oxygen detection; electrochemical technology for hydrogen sulfide, carbon monoxide, and other toxics; and infrared technology for carbon dioxide detection. The response times vary between 20 seconds and 60 seconds depending on the targeted gas, and the measuring ranges vary as well. These sensors are plastic or aluminum and housed in an explosion proof J-Box.

The GasWatch 2 features an easy and convenient method for monitoring single gases. With three gases to choose from (carbon monoxide, oxygen, and hydrogen sulfide), users can receive a fast and accurate response. Each individual gas sensor is color coded for quick reference and convenience. The unique space saving device fits directly on the wrist similar to a watch. The hands free device monitors the environment for the atmospheric condition and alerts the wearer in accordance with its settings. Its micro sensors use galvanic and electrochemical technology to monitor the air quality. They are inexpensive and are made to be easily replaced while in the field. They also have a life expectancy of over 2 years.

The GasWatch 2 is regulated by advanced microprocessor technology for reliable and accurate readings. Additionally, the gas watch has a triple alarm feature to notify wearers of dangerous conditions. The flashing lights, audible buzzer, and vibration alert is sure to be noticed on the jobsite. The large digital LCD display screen with a backlight will also automatically activate and provide a readout of the gas conditions, PEAK, TWA, and STEL readings. The unit also notifies wearers of possible equipment malfunction. As can be expected, it also tells time.

GasWatch 2 Specifications

Weighing in at approximately 2 ounces, the GasWatch 2 is extremely compact with dimensions of 2.5 W x 1.7 H x 0.9 D. The power source is one coin lithium battery (CR2450). The long life battery can operate for over 3,000 hours or 1 year of normal use with no alarms or backlighting. A typical response time for the unit is approximately 20 seconds for oxygen and 30 seconds for hydrogen sulfide and carbon monoxide. To preserve the integrity and security of the device, the unit is housed in a high-impact casing that is dust proof and weather proof.

The GasWatch 2 has been rated intrinsically safe and comes standard with a 2 year warranty for materials and craftsmanship.
