The M2 Stand Alone Transmitter is operational with or without a controller and is available in two forms: explosion proof and non-explosion proof. Advanced sensor technology

The state of the art sensors are long lasting with a lifespan typically over two years. Sensor construction is rated Class I, Division 1 groups B, C, and D for flammables, CO, H2S, O2, and CO2. The sensors are rated Class I, Division 2 for all other toxic gases. Depending on the gas, the sensors will operate through a catalytic, galvanic cell, electrochemical, or infrared design. The plug in nature of the sensors allows for a quick and tool free onsite replacement.

Specifications

Each transmitter features 2 to 3 years of life with normal service. The explosion proof LEL H2 specific transmitter has 3 to 5 years with normal service, and the explosion proof carbon dioxide, methane, and hydrocarbons feature over 5 years of life with normal service. The explosion proof transmitters are also water repellant. Each device is approximately 8.5 H x 5.2 W x 4.5 D and features an alphanumeric display with a backlight. The screen displays 8 characters per line with 2 lines for gas concentration readouts.

Optional Accessories

The M2 Stand Alone Transmitter has a variety of optional accessories available including calibration adaptors, flow through adaptors, remote horns and lights, calibration kits, battery backups, splash guards, air aspirator adaptors or panels, and dataloggers. Single or dual sensor system is designed to monitor gas atmospheres from extreme conditions with either temperature, moisture, or pressure challenges. A powerful air aspirator can pull a sample from up to 100 feet away. The filtered and conditioned sample gas is then passed across one or two different detectors. Each detector shares a common calibration and compressed air inlet for aspirated flow. This system is fault tolerant removing the need for expensive downtime and maintenance. The sample is diluted with air after the gas sensor and then returned to a common exhaust reducing the danger of potential hazardous gases entering a safe work space.

System integrity is maintained at all times using a flow fail monitoring device which provides a NO contact that activates if the sample line becomes blocked or damaged or if the air supply is removed or interrupted.

The panel can be used with direct-connect (sensors connected to an RKI controller), or with S2 Series, and M2 Series transmitters. All transmitters have a 4-20 mA signal for direct connection to the site DCS, PLC or site control system. If needed, RKI instruments can supply a dedicated Gas Detection Control system to provide local alarms, 4-20 mA output with a wide range of dry contacts, making the system very sophisticated and user friendly.

RKI is proud to introduce our Digester Gas Monitor. Gas from waste digesters contains high levels of methane, CO2, and H2S, with little to no oxygen present. The RKI gas monitor checks for all these gases on a cyclic basis. A powerful air aspirator draws a sample from up to 100 feet away. Since digester gas contains high humidity and high H2S, both of which can cause damage to sampling systems, the RKI Digester Gas Monitor is designed to handle these with no damage to the sampling system or sensors. The sample is passed through a series of dirt, dust, and moisture stopping filters, and these filters are automatically purged with fresh air at the end of each cycle.

Measurement time is just 4 minutes, taken at periodic cycles. Cycle time is selectable, with settings for cycle time of 15 minute, 1 hour, 4 hours, 8 hours, or 24 hours. A cycle can also be initiated anytime by pressing a button. After each cycle, the sensors and sampling system are flushed with fresh air so as to minimize corrosion caused by the high H2S content. The system is fault tolerant minimizing the possibility of expensive repairs or downtime.

System integrity is maintained at all times using a flow fail monitoring device which provides a fail alarm and relay if there is ever a problem with the flow system, such as a blockage, or if the air aspirator compressed air supply is removed or interrupted.

The system is housed in a wall mounting NEMA 4X enclosure. The gas readings can be viewed through the enclosure door clear window. Flow meters and filters are easily visible for confirmation of correct flows and operation. The RKI Digester Gas Monitor contains adjustable alarm levels for each gas, and also programmable alarm relays. In addition, the unit provides 4-20mA signals for each gas concentration for connection to an external DCS, PLC, or other site control system. A Modbus output is also available. The outputs are the readings received from the last cycle taken.

The Crude Oil Tanker model is a combination type portable HC, O2, and H2s gas detector with an Infrared (NDIR) type sensor, galvanic cell type sensor and Electro-chemical cell type sensor. These sensors provide accurate detection of HC, O2 and H2S levels even in N2 and other inert environments. The measuring ranges of model RX-516 are 0-100%LEL / 0-10%vol for HC, 0-25% vol for O2 and 0-100.0ppm for H2S respectively. A higher range for H2S (0-1,000ppm) is available in model RX-517. S2 Sensor/Transmitter

Explosion proof S2 Sensor/Transmitter

The explosion proof sensors use a variety of detection mechanisms including catalytic for LEL and LEL- H2 specific; metal oxide semiconductor for hydrogen; galvanic cell technology for oxygen; electrochemical for hydrogen sulfide and carbon monoxide; and infrared for carbon dioxide, methane, and hydrocarbons. A hydrogen specific sensor transmitter is not available. Each of these detection methods come with their own measuring range specifications and response times varying from 20 seconds to 45 seconds. These sensors are stainless steel and are housed in a cast aluminum explosion proof J-Box (a stainless steel J-Box is also available).

Non-explosion proof S2 Sensor/Transmitter

The non-explosion proof sensors use galvanic cells for oxygen detection; electrochemical technology for hydrogen sulfide, carbon monoxide, and other toxics; and infrared technology for carbon dioxide detection. The response times vary between 20 seconds and 60 seconds depending on the targeted gas, and the measuring ranges vary as well. These sensors are plastic or aluminum and housed in an explosion proof J-Box.

Accessories

The S2 Sensor/Transmitter has numerous accessories available to meet the individual workplace's needs. Such accessories include calibration adaptors, flow through adaptors, remote horns and lights, calibration kits, battery backups, splash guards, air aspirator adaptors or panels, and data loggers.
