7085000 EnSys RDX Explosives Soil Test Kit with Extraction Jars by Modern Water

Ensys® explosives kits are rapid field or laboratory colourimetric tests for the analysis of explosives in soil. The kits are based on a method developed by Dr. Thomas Jenkins at the US Army Corps of Engineers - CRREL.

Sample preparation

• Soil samples require prior extraction using the included extraction components

Sampling time

• 'Dirt-to-Data' in approximately 30 minutes
• Typically about six samples can be run in about one hour
• Soil extraction time is typically 2 - 10 minutes per sample plus test run time of approximately 20 minutes

Specificity

The Ensys® RDX test is specific for RDX, HMX and related explosive compounds and exhibits the following sensitivities. The RDX does not measure TNT, TNB or DNB.

Basic Test Procedure

• Clean cuvettes and set spectrophotometer
• Extract soil sample: Weigh 10 grams of soil sample, Add sample to extraction jar, Measure 50mL acetone into 50mL tube, Pour acetone into extraction jar and shake for three minutes, Allow to settle for five minutes
• Draw into syringe 5.5mL liquid from above the sediment layer in extraction jar
• Attach filter tip to syringe and transfer 5mL of sample extract into a 13mL tube
• NOTE: if nitrate/ nitrate interferents are present, attach an Alumina-A cartridge to the syringe and dispense through this
• Cut open an acetic acid bulb and add contents to the 13mL tube. Cap and shake
• Cut open a NitriVer pillow and add it to a 50mL reaction vial containing water
• Quickly pour acetic acid and sample into 13 mL zinc tube and cap. Invert twice and expose sample to zinc for EXACTLY 15 seconds
• With the filter attached to syringe and plunger removed, hold over reaction vial and pour zinc solution into it
• Rapidly filter the solution into the 50mL reaction vial, cap and shake for 30 seconds
• Incubate for 15 minutes for colour development and transfer contents to 30mL syringe barrel. Attach syringe filter and dispense into spectrophotometer cuvette
• Place cuvette in spectrophotometer and record absorbance
• Calculate results

7310000 EnviroGard DDT Soil Kit by Modern Water

Envirogard® is a rapid field enzyme immunoassay method for the analysis of soil remediation, assessment and industrial testing. It uses a coated tube technology to detect the analyte of concern.

Samples per kit

• Up to 17 soil sample test results can be obtained per kit, depending upon the number of runs and action levels used.
• Typical applications use two or three calibrators and one negative control.

Assay range

• Semi-quantitative results (greater or less than) at calibrator (action) levels of 0.2, 1.0 and 10.0 ppm DDT
• Minimum detection level (MDL) is 0.2 ppm DDT.
• No maximum screening level as extracts can be diluted into test range

Sample preparation

• Soil samples require prior extraction using the MWI Sample Extraction Kit (sold separately).
• The Sample Extraction Kit provides material for 12 soil sample extractions with methanol.

Sampling time

• Soil extraction time is typically 2 minutes per sample plus assay run time of approximately 30 minutes.

Specificity

The EnviroGard DDT immunoassay test does not differentiate between DDT and other organochlorines. The table below shows compounds at the minimum detection limit (MDL) -an approximate concentration required to yield a positive result atthe lowest standard. The IC50 is the concentration required to inhibit one half of the color produced by the negative control. It is also used to calculate cross-reactivity values to similar compounds.

Basic Test Procedure

• Extract the soil sample using the MWI Sample Extraction Kit
• Pipet DDT assay diluent into the antibody coated tubes, then add either DDT calibrator or sample extract to the tubes along with DDT enzyme conjugate.
• Wait 15 minutes, then decant and wash the tubes.
• Add substrate.
• Wait for 10 minutes, add stop solution
• Read the absorbance using a photometer, and interpret the results. (Refer to DDT Soil Test Kit Instruction Guide procedures.)

• Prepare standards
• Add 100 uL of sample or standard
• Incubate for 30 minutes
• Add 100 uL enzyme conjugate
• Incubate for 30 minutes
• Decant and wash five times
• Add 100 uL colour solution
• Incubate for 30 minutes
• Stop the reaction and read colour at 450nm
