G450 Multi-gas Detector

The G450 Multi-gas Detector continually measures up to four separate atmospheric gases. In confined spaces, the detector will monitor LEL combustible gas, oxygen, H2S, and CO. The easy to use G450 series of detectors is designed with user friendliness in mind. Many of its most common functions are operated with a single button, and the unit features a fully automatic calibration system. Users need only to attach the adaptor and flow gas to the sensors. Long Battery Life

The G450 Multi-gas Detector also features a long life battery operation that is most efficient for workplace safety. The device has a batter life of up to 25 hours of continuous operation. With alkaline packs, the units are powered by 2 AA batteries, and when placed in the drop in cradle, the rechargeable battery packs can be fully recharged in less than 4 hours. The rechargeable packs have optional flash light LEDs to indicate charge level.

Triple Alarm System

This unit features an elaborate alarm system that is not to be missed. The triple alarm system features a loud audible alarm of 103dB, a vibrating alarm, and bright 360 wrap around LEDs with a colored backlit display for visual alarms. The alarm system ensures that users and those nearby are fully aware of possible environmental hazards. Measuring Principle

IR transmitters have become recognized as reliable gas warning systems for explosion protection. They are used to detect individual combustible gases or a wide range of gases. This involves sending an IR beam with a certain light intensity through a measuring space and then capturing it with a detector. Parts of this beam are absorbed by, amongst other things, hydrocarbon molecules. The reduced light intensity of the beam is registered by beam detectors and converted into a signal as the existing % LEL gas concentration.

Benefits

A special feature of our IR technology is its ability to also measure combustible gases above the lower explosion limit. Moreover, the measurement does not require oxygen.

With this technology there is basically no risk of contaminating the sensor, through silicone vapors or hydrogen sulfide, when using catalytic combustion sensors.

Operation

IR transmitters are usually used with 2 wavelengths, a so-called reference wavelength and just one measuring wavelength. Strict limits are applied to these systems. The absorption spectra of many hydrocarbons are located in the wavelength range of 3.3 μm and overlap to a large extent.

This means that gases with overlapping spectra and just one measuring wavelength can no longer be clearly distinguished. Some hydrocarbons, e.g. the frequently used welding gas acetylene, are non-absorbing in the wavelength range of 3.3 µm, but absorb instead in neighboring wavelength ranges.

In many practical applications, it is not essentially important which gas is responsible for the explosion risk. Therefore, early warnings through the broadband measurement of hydrocarbons in order to monitor the lower explosion limit (LEL) must be guaranteed. False alarms with uncritical concentrations of individual gases or solvents are thus absolutely unacceptable.

These requirements are problems for systems with 2 wavelengths.

Patented GfG Technology

The internationally patented technology of the IR 29 has been developed to solve these problems. The gold-plated mirror optics of the sensor contains 2 radiators and up to 4 detector elements with different optical filters. Furthermore, the absorption spectrum of water almost completely covers that of hydrocarbon absorption in the 2.7 to 3.3 μm range. Air humidity therefore initially generates a measuring signal the same as the actual measuring gas. This cross-sensitivity is of particular importance in warm areas with high relative humidity. An increase in the absolute water absorption capacity of air is not linear with the temperature, i.e. three times as much water can be absorbed at 40 °C than at 20 °C. This influence can only be compensated if the current moisture content of the air is known. The IR 29 can be optionally equipped with a pressure and moisture sensor for compensation.

Stationary gas monitoring systems

In many industrial operations, toxic or combustible gases and vapors or oxygen deficiency can be hazardous to personnel and disruptive to production. Even small amounts of some materials can cause dangerous situations. Both legal regulations and your responsibility to your workers demand continuous, responsive, and reliable monitoring for such dangerous gases. Only a fixed gas warning system like the GMA 100 II provides the security of a round-the-clock gas monitoring without the expense of manual measurement by your staff.

Control module GMA 100 II

The GMA 100 II stationary gas warning system is comprised of a control module and a remote sensor (MWG). The sensor continuously monitors the gas concentration and sends a signal via cable to the GMA 100 II control module for evaluation. The GMA 100 II constantly monitors its own operational status and powers the remote sensor.

Immediate recognition and warning of gas hazards

The GMA 100 II provides three alarm levels that can be used to initiate appropriate responses to gas hazards. The pre-alarm, for example, warns of low gas concentrations, indicating leaks, before dangerous situations occur. The other two main alarm thresholds indicate direct danger requiring immediate action. Alarm levels can be variably adjusted within the detection range and adapted to changing requirements. Every threshold can be set to latching / non-latching and resettable / non-resettable alarm points.

Quick reaction means increased safety

Every control module provides optional voltage-free relays for the three alarms and for fault warning. The relays may be used for controlling external alarm devices like beacons or buzzers, or they can activate specific counter measures (closing valves or turning on a fan) to eliminate the danger from gases or vapors. The GMA 100 II is flexible enough to accommodate your individual requirements. Every relay can be either a normally closed (NC) or normally open (NO) contact, and works in either closed or open circuit operation.

Easy Handling

A keypad controls the display of detection range, gas and units. Relays can be controlled and checked individually. No special tools or instruments are required. Alarm levels and calibration are set with push button menu control mechanical fine tuning with potentio meters is a thing of the past.

Single or collective alarm

The GMA RB relay module and the GMA SW key-operated switch allow you to group several control modules. The key-operated switch suppresses alarms during servicing.

In addition to the collective alarm, each controller can have up to four relays which can activate or deactivate electrical devices such as exhaust fans, valves, alarm horns or lights.

Protected against power failure

In case of a power failure, the optional battery back-up NAV takes over automatically and without delay to preserve safety. The NAV slides directly into the rack; no additional wiring is required.

G450 Multi-gas Detector

The G450 Multi-gas Detector continually measures up to four separate atmospheric gases. In confined spaces, the detector will monitor LEL combustible gas, oxygen, H2S, and CO. The easy to use G450 series of detectors is designed with user friendliness in mind. Many of its most common functions are operated with a single button, and the unit features a fully automatic calibration system. Users need only to attach the adaptor and flow gas to the sensors. The unit s GfG AutoCal system will automatically initiate the calibration sequence and will update the necessary information on the G450 Multi-gas Detector.

Long Battery Life

The G450 Multi-gas Detector also features a long life battery operation that is most efficient for workplace safety. The device has a batter life of up to 25 hours of continuous operation. With alkaline packs, the units are powered by 2 AA batteries, and when placed in the drop in cradle, the rechargeable battery packs can be fully recharged in less than 4 hours. The rechargeable packs have optional flash light LEDs to indicate charge level.

Triple Alarm System

This unit features an elaborate alarm system that is not to be missed. The triple alarm system features a loud audible alarm of 103dB, a vibrating alarm, and bright 360 wrap around LEDs with a colored backlit display for visual alarms. The alarm system ensures that users and those nearby are fully aware of possible environmental hazards. Additionally, the easy to read backlit display will light varying colors from green, orange, and red to intuitively notify users of the severity of the conditions.

Features

The G450 Multi-gas Detector is encased in a dust proof and highly water resistant housing. The housing even contains a built in rubber boot to help protect from regular wear and tear. Each unit is equipped with datalogging capabilities. The datalogger records and internally stores all activity and environmental conditions. Users can download this information to their computers and use it to research, analyze, and evaluate the jobsite environment.

The multi-gas detection system comes standard with a few accessories including a calibration adaptor, a training manual, and a training DVD. The rechargeable devices include the previous accessories and additional drop in cradle chargers and a wall power adaptor.
