Differential sensors have longer working lifetimes

The differential design employs two glass electrodes, which record pH or ORP measurements differentially with respect to a third metal electrode. The reference cell of a differential sensor is actually a measuring electrode in a concentrated pH 7.0 buffer solution rather than a traditional silver/silver chloride reference. This type of reference cell resists contamination by the sample, improving measurement accuracy and extending sensor lifetime.

NaI(Tl), or Sodium Iodide, crystal is recommended for nuclide identification in room temperature application. It provides the best energy resolution for gamma rays in this environment and is relatively inexpensive. Sodium Iodide probes are available in a wide variety of sizes.

The CsI (Tl), or Cesium Iodide, crystal used in Radiation Alert® Probes has a higher atomic number, is more rugged, and less hygroscopic than a typical Nal detector. The improved gamma ray absorption allows a thinner crystal to be used, effectively reducing the background count rate.

RKI Instrument's model SD-1 Series smart combustible gas, toxic gas, oxygen, and organic vapor detector/transmitter is a robust and reliable explosion proof design for detecting LEL and ppm levels of hazardous atmospheres. In addition to measuring the common %LEL levels of methane, hexane and isobutane, for example, the SD-1 Series also has the capability of measuring a wide variety of toxic organic compounds in a PPM range such as acrylonitrile, ethylene oxide, n-methyl pyrolidone, methylene chloride and many others.
