S2 Sensor/Transmitter

The RKI S2 Sensors and Transmitters use state of the art sensor technology to detect common gas hazards. Their efficient design and cost effectiveness make them an industry choice for atmospheric monitoring. The sensor transmitters can be used in both indoor and outdoor conditions and are designed to interface with RKI controllers or PLC/DCS systems.

The sensors are available in explosion proof casing for monitoring LEL, H2 specific, oxygen, H2S, CO2, and carbon monoxide. These sensors also have flame arrestors and are approved for use in hazardous environments. The oxygen, H2S, CO, and CO2 sensors are available in non-explosion proof models. The sensors provide highly specific and quick detection and are long lasting. The sensors can be quickly replaced while on the field and do not require any tools.

Explosion proof S2 Sensor/Transmitter

The explosion proof sensors use a variety of detection mechanisms including catalytic for LEL and LEL- H2 specific; metal oxide semiconductor for hydrogen; galvanic cell technology for oxygen; electrochemical for hydrogen sulfide and carbon monoxide; and infrared for carbon dioxide, methane, and hydrocarbons. A hydrogen specific sensor transmitter is not available. Each of these detection methods come with their own measuring range specifications and response times varying from 20 seconds to 45 seconds. These sensors are stainless steel and are housed in a cast aluminum explosion proof J-Box (a stainless steel J-Box is also available).

Non-explosion proof S2 Sensor/Transmitter

The non-explosion proof sensors use galvanic cells for oxygen detection; electrochemical technology for hydrogen sulfide, carbon monoxide, and other toxics; and infrared technology for carbon dioxide detection. The response times vary between 20 seconds and 60 seconds depending on the targeted gas, and the measuring ranges vary as well. These sensors are plastic or aluminum and housed in an explosion proof J-Box.

Accessories

The S2 Sensor/Transmitter has numerous accessories available to meet the individual workplace's needs. Such accessories include calibration adaptors, flow through adaptors, remote horns and lights, calibration kits, battery backups, splash guards, air aspirator adaptors or panels, and data loggers.

Each sensor comes standard with a one year warranty for materials and workmanship.

To use the Direct Connect Sensors, they can be used for remote detection by mounting them onto explosion proof junction boxes, or they can mount directly onto controllers and be used as a completely standalone system. Detection solutions for a variety of hazardous environments

The Direct Connect Sensors are designed to be use in both indoor and outdoor settings. Additionally, some of the sensors are available in explosion proof models. The explosion proof models utilize a patented coating which serves double duty as also being water repellant. Users can also purchase splash guards to protect the sensors from very wet conditions.

Sensor Technology

Each sensor is crafted with stainless steel and housed in cast aluminum (stainless steel housing is available for some sensors). The Direct Connect Sensors are available in 2 forms: explosion proof and non-explosion proof. The explosion proof sensors are available as catalytic sensors for LEL, and LEL H2 specific. For hydrogen sulfide and carbon monoxide, the sensors utilize electrochemical technology which provides incredibly specific accuracy and quick response. Oxygen sensors work with galvanic technology, and infrared sensors for methane, hydrocarbons, and carbon dioxide. Non-explosion proof uses a galvanic sensor for oxygen; electrochemical sensors for hydrogen sulfide, carbon monoxide and other toxic gases; and infrared for carbon dioxide. Both explosion proof and non-explosion proof have 1 year warranties for materials and craftsmanship.

Specifications

The response times are under 30 seconds for all gases except hydrogen sulfide and carbon monoxide in the non-explosion versions (with a response time of 35 seconds) and non-explosion proof model sensor for toxic gases which has a 60 second response time. The life expectancy of all sensors are between 2 and 5 years.

The Direct Connect Sensors are compatible with several RKI Industries' accessories including calibration adaptors, flow through adaptors, remote horns and lights, calibration kits, battery backups, splash guards, air aspirator adaptors, and dataloggers.

The unique tri-sensor design integrates 3 sensors into one explosion proof housing. This results in significant savings with installation and wiring cost versus traditional single sensor enclosures. Only one conduit needs to be run to the sensors.

To protect the integrity of the device and the configurations, the unit can be password protected. This model is a highly sensitive C5F8 / C4F6 / or C3F6 gas monitor which uses a special techniquie for detecting C5F8, C4F6 or C3F6. into more readily detectable compounds.

Then, the resulting compounds cause a chemical reaction on a colorimetric tape, and the intensity of the chemical reaction is analyzed and correlated to a specific ppm level of C5F8, C4F6 or C3F6 present in the sample. The detection tape is in a handy cassette which is easily removed for periodic replacement.

This is a flame proof gas detectorfor LEL level detection of methane and many other hydrocarbons. This detector uses the non-dispersive infrared absorption (NDIR) detection method, which is free from interferences from H2, most non hydrocarbon refrigerants, and most other gases or vapors. The sensor also is not poisoned or influenced by silicon vapors, or corrosive vapors, which typically can destroy sensors from other detection methods.

The SD-705 is compact and easy to install and operate. The adjustment control is a magnetic wand that is easy to use by placing it onto the glass window of the gas detector. Gas concentration is read through window, and adjustable dual alarm contacts are provided for activation of external buzzer or alarm light. Advanced sensor technology

The state of the art sensors are long lasting with a lifespan typically over two years. Sensor construction is rated Class I, Division 1 groups B, C, and D for flammables, CO, H2S, O2, and CO2. The sensors are rated Class I, Division 2 for all other toxic gases. Depending on the gas, the sensors will operate through a catalytic, galvanic cell, electrochemical, or infrared design. The plug in nature of the sensors allows for a quick and tool free onsite replacement.

Specifications

Each transmitter features 2 to 3 years of life with normal service. The explosion proof LEL H2 specific transmitter has 3 to 5 years with normal service, and the explosion proof carbon dioxide, methane, and hydrocarbons feature over 5 years of life with normal service. The explosion proof transmitters are also water repellant. Each device is approximately 8.5 H x 5.2 W x 4.5 D and features an alphanumeric display with a backlight. The screen displays 8 characters per line with 2 lines for gas concentration readouts.

The GD-K71D is a complete sample drawing gas monitor, including digital readout and alarm relays. A new gas sensor technology using an intelligent sensor for remote location calibration and setup is used. The new GD-K71D sensors are designed to provide a longer time period between calibrations. Calibration intervals have been extended to12 months of on-line service which equates to reduced maintenance cost. In addition, the sensors can be calibrated away from the gas detector installation, for example in a service area or off site. This eliminates the inconvenience of having calibration gases in the fab or monitoring location.
