The Milwaukee CD601 digital electrical conductivity (EC) Pen is designed for aquariums, aquaculture, pools, water conditioning and many other applications. MAINTENANCE

EC electrodes can develop nutrient build up over time. To miminize build up, always rinse the probe in fresh tap or DI water after every use.

CONVERTING EC TO TDS

The Milwaukee EC Pen, like all conductivity meters, provides a measure of electrically charged ions in a solution and is an absolute measure of conductivity.

EC is often converted to TDS in parts per million (ppm). Different scales include the 500 scale, 650 scale and the 700 scale. However, true PPM can only be determined through chemical analysis.

Your mS/cm reading can be approximately converted to TDS (ppm) as shown in the examples below.

2,000 μS/cm = 2.0 mS/cm = 1000 ppm on .50 factor scale

2,000 μS/cm = 2.0 mS/cm = 1400 ppm on the 442 scale or .70 factor scale

TDSK18000 Conductivity Solution, 10,289ppm/18000uS,1Qt by Sensorex

TDS/Conductivity instruments and sensors must be calibrated together. For a single-point calibration, select the one solution that approximates the expected conductivity or ppm level of total salts. Mixed Salt standards are the most frequently used in the field to sample naturally occurring water sources, boiler feed water, or cooling tower water. Typical river water, well water, or lake water sample will contain a mixture of several different salts. Sensorex Mixed Salt standards simulate a "Natural" mixture of common salt compounds found in these sources. Sodium sulfate, sodium bicarbonate, and sodium chloride salts are blended to provide a representative value. There are certain applications where Single Salt Solutions are preferred. NaCl Solution is routinely used to calibrate instruments measuring Sea Water or brackish water samples. Reagent grade salt and high resistivity DI water is compounded for accurate results. KCI Single Salt Solution may be used with conductivity meters that read directly in Siemens or Ohms. To match your probe to a thermowell, first measure the distance from the probe's tip to the top of the thread (typical thread length is 0.5" for 1/2" NPT fittings).
